About Brown & Sharpe
With roots tracing back to 1833, Brown & Sharpe began as a partnership between David Brown and his son, Joseph. The duo opened a shop which was known as David Brown & Son on South Main Street, in Providence, Rhode Island. Their main business focused on repairing and making clocks and watches, as well as providing light mechanical work of precision. In 1848, Lucien Sharpe came on board as an apprentice, and eventually became a partner in 1853, giving the company its name. The company expanded with the launch of its precision gear cutting and dividing engine.
In the 1990ss, coordinate measuring machines became the company’s main business. They also produce a wide range of precision and measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and gauge blocks. Today, it’s a flagship brand under Hexagon Metrology Group and continues to be recognized for its top-notch products.
