Precision Ball Bearing Comparator

The Mahr Comparator 2182758 is designed for the precision measurement of balls from 0.040″ to 2.0″ diameter. The system features a 1μ” amplifier, digital display with RS-232
output and an air retractable Gagehead. The purpose of this instruction guide is to facilitate in the preparation of the gage for
measuring. A minimal setup procedure to zero the gage is required

System Contents
The system consists of the following components:
ESA-1001 Stand with 15 deg. tilt.
EGH-6 Gagehead with standard contact and AL-673-TC Anvil, and modified
for air retraction
EAL-1012 Standard Lower Anvil
2244003 Special Ball Holding Fixture
5312162 C 1216 F Amplifier

• A solid steel, chrome plated Column (Figure 2) is set into a Cast Iron Base (Figure 2). Three widely spaced pads in the base provide firm support for precision work. For ball
applications, the stand is modified to provide a 15 degree tilt.
• The Gage Arm Mount (Figure 2), riding on the Column, has widely spaced bearing points for stability and ease of adjustment. A Locking Knob (Figure 3) is provided at the rear of the mount. For fine height adjustments, a thumbscrew is provided on the
Gagehead Pantograph Assembly.
• An Elevation Hand Wheel (Figure 2) and precision Elevating Screw (Figure 2) provides precise vertical movement of the arm mount on the column.
• The pantograph-type Gagehead (Figure 2 and Figure 3), modified for air retraction, is completely enclosed in the Arm. Pre-travel is set at 0.004" with a gage face pressure of
0.5 oz. Contact faces of the special Ball Fixture and the gage contact are flat within 2μ".
• Special Ball Fixturing (Figure 2), mounted to a standard anvil accommodate balls from 0.040" dia, to 2.0" dia. using interchangeable ‘V’ guides.
• Air retraction of the gagehead is accomplished with a Foot Switch (Figure 1) through an Air Cylinder (Figure 2) located on the front of the Gagehead Arm.
